Unfortunately, I could not finish this book. It starts off in an odd way with characters that don't see to fit and do not seem to connect to the story. When we finally get to Garret - the blacksmith in the description - we're almost 40% through the book! The story seems to drag on and on and ON. I made it to about 60% before I decided I had better books to read. There is a lot of internal struggle for Garret (SPOILER ALERT - he turns in a werewolf) and there is a LOT of words centered around that struggle. So much so that the story tends to really bottom up and almost stop. That's when I decided I didn't care enough about these characters to keep going and I stopped reading. I think if the writing could be tightened up, it would be better, but it just drags on too much without any real sense of direction.Tags : Brimstone, Part 1: Die Trying (Road Home) [Daniel Foster] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. When first started reading I really didn't think I would Care for the story but more I read got into it and enjoyed
Umm weird is all i can say. The beginning had me confused telling the 'now" story, then a diary excerpt from someone else many years earlier.
Hello, this was one heck of a story. Very, very well written and extremely captivating. Once it gets it books into you, it doesn't want to let go. Thanks.
This is a very good story, though quite depressing, most of the way. It's a strangely laid out story which makes it hard to read at first but it all comes together if you stick with it. I'm glad I did as it becomes a great story.
There are a few spelling errors but much less than most self published books.
This is a book that takes desperate characters, in need of a break, through an exhausting journey filled with pain from every aspect of life. Just when you think it can't get any worse, it starts to rain. Only, the rain is the blood of of anything that might give hope to the people who need it the most. The book starts with the main characters facing social and emotional pressures that individuals of their age never should have to endure. Through the middle and to the end of the book, the fears of the characters are made manifest by very real monsters that test everyone to their physical and emotional limits.
I would not suggest this book to anyone with a weak constitution as the author describes some very disturbing situations in an incredibly detailed manner. you will find moments that contain graphic violence and sexual pressure that will make you sick (as they should). Where this book tells a pained story that can make you feel how dark the world can truly be, it does not make you revel in it. I would suggest this book to anyone who wants to read a story about real human struggle, that can only be described with inhuman obstacles.
I don't usually review books, but I met the author at a local convention and promised I would leave one.
At first I felt a bit lost, especially with some of the jumps between characters. However, I eventually got used to the writing style and began to just accept the tale how it was told. Which, in my opinion, is an interesting take on a classic monster (I won't give away more than that, as I hate leaving spoilers)
The book won't be for everyone, but if you can power through the start and adapt to the style, it becomes a pretty good read.
I don't really know what to say about this story. It was very long, and most of the time I was utterly lost. Going back and forth from past to present day (in the book anyway) giving no clear explanation of what was going on. It rambled and roamed something about a boy changing back and forth into a wolf with some deep dark "creature" after him and making not a bit of sense. And when I finally reached the end (and that was only because if I start a book I finish it, good or bad) the Author implied there would be a sequel?? To what? I still have no idea what all that reading was about, to begin with.
