Tweet Heart Elizabeth Rudnick Books Reviews
I don't have a twitter account and have never tweeted before, but after reading this book I must say I'm quite tempted to start one. Our main character Claire decides to join the masses on twitter and can't believe her luck when her crush begins following her on line. I had some issues understanding why Claire was so hung up on JD (her crush) when she didn't really know anything about him to begin with. An attraction I can understand, but a full out crush on someone who's practically a stranger baffled me. This took me a little while to overcome but eventually I powered through.
The tweet, email and conversational format was somewhat overwhelming but I settled into it and now looking back, enjoyed the different styles. Between Claire's blog, everyone's tweets and reactions to the goings on of their friends, I found myself having fun the whole way through. Because of the unique format you feel as if you're right there in the mix with the characters themselves. Readers will want to insert their own tweets and be able to send their own emails to the characters. You're getting firsthand feedback and will want to keep turning the pages to see what these characters do next.
Lots of fun to read, definitely different than anything I've read before and would say I'd read more like it in the future. For an author's debut novel, I'd say Rudnick hit it out of the park and surprised readers all over!
Claire is freaking out a little bit. She's the school's brand new advice columnist, and the fact that she lacks experience in the romance department makes the prospect of giving romantic advice to her peers pretty stressful. Not to mention the fact that she has been crushing on JD Whitecomb for years and has yet to even speak with him.
Lottie is Claire's best friend. Unofficial "lax (lacrosse) queen" at their prep school, and bubbly popular gal by nature.
Will has been in love with Claire for awhile now, but he's too afraid to ruin their friendship by telling her. So he sits on the sidelines while she blabbers on about her crush, JD Whitcomb.
Last we have Bennett. Bennett is a sarcastic, socially unacceptable guy who loves science fiction and all things geeky. He writes his own blog. It's snarky, gossipy, and hilarious.
This entire story is told in tweets, blog posts, emails, and Clarie's advice column. As these four friends are chatting away on Twitter, Claire's lifetime crush begins following her Twitter account. JD Tweets her, and Claire gets to know JD a little bit through the wonder of the web. When she finally gets the nerve to speak to him in public though, he acts as if he has no clue who she is or what she is talking about. Maybe JD isn't Mr. Right after all?

I didn't go into reading this book with giant expectations for an amazing plot. I read this book strictly for fun, and it was 100% satisfying in that department. The book and its' pages are set up very well and they're amazingly pleasing to the eye. Each page has a cute background. The Tweets, emails & blog posts are all set up nicely and it was amazing how well the story was fleshed out considering the fact that it was done the way it is. I wasn't expecting to have the amount in insight into the happenings between the characters as I did. Using emails and Ben's blog was a clever way to fill in blank spots and fit more storyline - since 140 characters obviously doesn't allow for too much! I think the author did it all very well.
My favorite part of the story had to be Bennett. I found myself a little disappointed that the story wasn't more centered around him. I may be biased, because he is the type of guy I would normally go for.. but he was just hilarious. I found him to be the most colorful character in the book. His snark and quick wit was entertaining and had me laughing. Claire, Lottie, and Will were a bit dull and just "meh" for me.
This book is about as fluffy as a newly blow-dried Pomeranian. It was predictable, but really cute. Like I said, I didn't go into it expecting much more than that. I think readers will appreciate the set-up and format much more than the actual storyline. I'd recommend this book as something purely for merriment. Another beach read, I'd say! It's fast-paced, fun, and a really sweet + fun way to pass a few hours.
When I saw this book, I thought the Tweet and email set up was a fun idea. I was interested in seeing how the conversations via Twitter would work, as I myself have not been a Tweeter. I had also read other books like it. I was sadly very disappointed in this book.
All the characters are absolutely terrible, more than the typical, "I'm in high school so I"m awful," sort of way. I didn't find myself rooting for them, or hoping things would work everything out in the end. I just sat there wondering why someone didn't just smack these girls and explain the real world to them, that you can't walk around whining about not having a boyfriend and expect someone to find that attractive. Meanwhile the one sweet boy is pining over the girl, who's not worth a moment of his time. And his friend (who is quite possibly the only worth while character in the story) sits back and calls them on all their stupidity.
I found the pace to be decent, but the story incredibly dull. This is not a YA read I would recommend.
I really liked the book. First of all I think it's different and unique because of the way it's written. The whole book consists of tweets, emails and blogs and some kind of represents today's way of communication.
The plot was interesting and very sweet, the characters were realistic - I like that.
The only thing I didn't like was that it was very short .. As it consists of tweets you can read it very fast and I would have loved it even more if it was a little bit longer.
All in one 4 stars ****
I don't tweet, I have no tweeples, I'm not a twitterer. But my dad got me the book anyways and it was alright. I'm guessing if you do have a twitter you'll like this better, I just didn't think the conversations were deep enough, because you're only getting the parts they say in emails and on twitter. If there was a real story behind it, as well as the online aspect I might like it better.
This was such a great book !! Perfect for any preteen
