The Concubine Gift K Ford K 9781466287570 Books

A light, funny, and most definately naughty (although not smutty) read. When stuffy Bernice jimmies open a stuck drawer on an antique box, the cosmetic powder she finds inside sets off a chain of events that are funny, sweet, and most definately erotic. The first two chapters are intriguing, if a bit slow, but once Bernice starts having her visions, the book just flows. The ending is happy. A boorish person gets a deserved comeuppance. And all ends well. Perfect summer beach reading.

The Concubine's Gift to us is a chance to discover and experience our innermost sexual desires, and in that experience, find our freedom. K. Ford K. takes us on a romp through small town life, where just beyond the borders of town, and just underneath the ice-cream social surface, lie the passion and love ready to awaken, surprise, and revitalize lives. Good, healthy, frisky fun!
The Concubine's Gift is an imaginative and intriguingly written book by author K. Ford K. which takes us on a explorative journey of innermost sexual sensibility and fantasy through the lives of Bernice Babbitt and the central characters.
We are introduced to the small town life of Valentine, Nevada, a town created during the great expansion of land and railroads across the United States. The town like many cities the world over, had a rich history in one of the oldest industries known to mankind, this being prostitution. This history of prostitution in Valentine was embraced by some and denied by others like a dark secret. The irony from its founding days, to the modern day, is that the town still relies heavily on this old trade, although the Cribs housed within the old dancehall had long since closed.
We are introduced to Esther Lily Thompson, possibly the only person in the town of Valentine to be proud of her and the town's connection with the sex trade, and indeed her lineage, heritage and life was determined by it until her dying day. It is the passing of Esther Lily Thompson that brings an unlikely group of four friends together, Bernice Babbitt, Mrs. Lin, Trina Trinkett and a handsome young man named Harold. Esther Lily's burial in "Whore's Corner" of the Town cemetery would set in motion a sequence of events and occurrences, that would make the town and its people confront their inner passions, desires, fantasies and sheer lust for sensual love making and more.
The awakening of this town occurs almost accidentally when the town's past and present collide with an impulse purchase by one of the group of friends, Bernice Babbitt. Bernice we discover is a quiet, introverted and sexually inhibited small town lady. She has been raised in a culture of discipline, respect and lady like cultural restraint, hiding her inner most thoughts and feelings on love and lust. Bernice we learn possesses a secret collection of erotic memorabilia, it is this fascination few know about, as Bernice secretly hides that entire collection behind a Gold Chinese Screen. Bernice made most of her purchases from Mrs. Lin - the antique dealer and her friend. It is the acquisition of the Concubine's Gift from Hong Kong that opens up a transcontinental tale of sexual deprivation, intensification and exploration for the reader.
The author K. Ford K cleverly combines a mystic sexual tale of the life of a young Chinese lady Peony (Blissful Night), with the modern day struggles afflicting the people and town of Valentine. It is Bernice Babbitt's innocent purchase from Mrs. Lin's shop, that exposes people's innermost secrets. The book provides interesting and unusual characters, all well developed and combined with the ancient Chinese influence and modern day twists and turns, manages to keep the reader enthralled and turning each page searching for the truth and more.
The well written secrets and stories of the personally flawed characters within the story are full of emotion, imagination and enough to set the reader's hot pounding and stir up the erotic hot-blooded passion in us all. The contents of the powder Bernice discovers within the Concubine Gift will forever change the lives and legacies of the towns folk of Valentine.
The book is full of passionate romance together with excellently written and detailed sexual tension and yearning for each character. The Concubine Gift will stir the thoughts and emotions of every reader, taking them on a journey where chemistry is as vital to the outcome of the story, as is mystery. Induction, seduction and possible destruction flow throughout the complex plot that is filled with captivating steamy romance. The mix of the oriental sexualisation and modern day lust, threatens to explode the old small town mindset forever. The Concubine Gift has everything, erotic well written scenes, love, loyalty, suspense and an outflow of character lifelines that keep the reader engrossed at all times.
The curiosity of Bernice and her group of friends harden's their relationships, but the beauty and potential danger of the mystic powder may determine the fate and outcome for all central to this mystical Concubine Gift. Will the sexual exploration and perseverance by the character be enough to unlock the secret of Peony (Blissful Night), and save Bernice and the town of Valentine?
The Concubine Gift is a skilfully, well written book with strong character development and many hot-blooded moments throughout drawing in the reader, it is as seductive in its reading, as the scene's are in writing by K. Ford K.

A highly recommended read by K. Ford K.
Imagine a tree-fenced, old country garden that holds a multitude of unknown treasures inside waiting to be discovered. You open the gate and take a peek. Then you step onto the path and take a wander around, peeking behind bushes here and looking into flower beds there. There are just so many little things to see.

The Concubine's Gift reminded me of such a garden. The book is a journey of discovery set in a small Nevada town, seen through the eyes of a sexually inhibited woman in her late-thirties, Bernice Babbitt.

The reason I use the analogy of the garden is that, to me, it just seemed that way. This isn't a serial book, where one thing leads to the next; it's more of a journey. Of course there's an ending, and of course there's a beginning; it's just that what happens in between could really happen in almost any order.

K. Ford K. narrates the story in a homey, old-fashioned kind of way. It's apple pie and home baking. It was a little like having a naughty bedtime story read to you; one that is full of 'by the way' and 'incidentally.' Stories branch into others and meander for a while before they return to the main path. And as you wander that path with Bernice you discover just why the book is named what it is.

For the most part, I enjoyed the read. The story itself is well written although I was hoping for a little more plot and a few more surprises. From early on I had a good idea where it was all going. Like I say, it was a pleasant walk through a tree-fenced, old country garden. And one that was filled with many sexual small-town secrets.

As a final note I have to add that the ebook had several formatting problems that I am told are being addressed. This made reading the book difficult at times and took away from its enjoyment.
